Do I need a GP referral letter?
Anyone can see an Osteopath and most people self-refer or are referred by friends. This is especially important to know due to the current long waiting times to see a GPs and NHS Musculoskeletal Services (Msk). After all, the quicker we address the problem, the sooner it can get better.
If you are planning to use private health insurance please check with them first, as they often require referral letters.
Should I expect any side effects after treatment?
You may feel tender after your treatment. The majority of clients see symptom improvements within the first 24 hours post treatment. Some describe a feeling of muscle soreness similar to that of having done a good workout. This can last 24-48 hours. If you are concerned, please get in touch.
What is your cancellation policy?
Whilst we appreciate that sometimes priorities can change, please give 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Can I use my insurance cover at Parkside Osteopathy?
We are registered with some insurance companies; however we do not invoice them directly. Instead I can provide you with an invoice in order for you to claim reimbursement. Please check with your insurer in advance to check their requirements for your claim.
If you are using WPA insurance my provider number is 920638292.
Recently I have worked with clients using WPA Insurance, Aviva and Medicash.
How many treatments will I need?
We use osteopathic principles to help you find your natural pain-free movement. The time it takes to achieve this is often dependent on your symptoms, the time you have had them and your general health and well being. As a general rule, long standing conditions usually take more time to improve or resolve than recent injuries.
Personalised Healthcare
We will discuss your particular situation and give you an idea of how many treatments may be needed. Most people feel good improvement within 3-4 sessions but often continue to treatment to achieve optimal recovery. Some find it useful to come back at regular intervals for protective or maintenance care.
Can I bring someone with me?
You are most welcome to bring anyone to your appointment. You will need to answer questions about your health and medical history so please make sure you are comfortable talking in front of your companion/s. We understand that some people may need to bring babies/children along. Whilst this isn’t ideal (as it can be hard to relax fully) we can accommodate you.
If under the age of 16, parent or guardian must be present.
Will treatment hurt?
It shouldn’t hurt. Some techniques can feel a bit uncomfortable especially if your joints or muscles are already tender. The osteopath can usually tell when working somewhere particularly painful and will always work with you to find the best approach.
We use a number of techniques, so if you are finding something uncomfortable please say and we can try a different method. Feel free to ask questions throughout your appointment as feedback and good communication are vital to your recovery.
Do you have to click my back or neck?
There are many techniques that can be used and although manipulative techniques themselves can be beneficial, and often gentle, they are not suitable for everyone. If you don’t want to have your joints manipulated, then we can use alternative techniques.
Do you prescribe exercises?
For a complete recovery there are probably things you will need to do at home. We will work together to come up with a simple to follow and implement plan to get you moving better and keep you moving.
Do you have same day bookings?
Bookings for the same day do not appear on the online booking calendar however may still be possible to arrange. Please phone or WhatsApp Robyn Phillips on 07914 821 259 or email robyn@parksideosteopathy.co.uk.
Am I too young/old for osteopathy?
Osteopathy is suitable for all ages and stages. At Parkside Osteopathy our youngest client was 4 months old and our eldest was in their 90s.
